A Brief History of Chain of Lakes Park
Chain of Lakes Park is a testament to a unique partnership between various entities, including Brevard County Natural Resources Watershed Management, Eastern Florida State College, the City of Titusville, the St. Johns River Water Management District, and Parrish Medical Center. Its primary purpose extends beyond recreation; the park was specifically engineered to prevent polluted storm runoff from entering the vital Indian River Lagoon, highlighting a commitment to environmental preservation. This thoughtful design has created a thriving habitat of artificial lakes and wetlands, along with hardwood and sabal palm hammocks, making it a haven for diverse wildlife.

The Watchtower: A Bird’s-Eye View
The 50-foot observation tower at Chain of Lakes Park serves as a fantastic wildlife viewing platform. It allows visitors to ascend above the tree line for panoramic vistas of the park’s ecosystems, including the various lakes, wetlands, and the expansive Indian River Lagoon. From this vantage point, you can often spot a wide variety of birds, alligators, and other local wildlife in their natural habitat.
You can climb the watchtower! It features stairs that lead to the top deck, providing an exhilarating experience and rewarding views. I am not a fan of heights, and usually towers like these rock making me a bit nervous, but this tower was stable and well-maintained.
